Panama has imported its first LNG cargo to commission the newly built $1bn Costa Norte LNG Terminal near Colon.
The Engie-chartered 154,500-cbm LNG carrier Provalys (built 2006) arrived last week, carrying a cargo exported from the Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana, reported Reuters.
The Costa Norte LNG Terminal is the first of its kind to be built in Panama and is situated near the Caribbean entrance of the Panama Canal.
AES Panama, a unit of US-listed utility group AES with a 50% stake in the facility, confirmed that the cargo will supply the 380MW AES Colon gas-fired power plant.
