Shipping companies are calling out liner owners for imposing "emergency" bunker surcharges on customers in response to rising fuel costs.
The Global Shipping Forum (GSF) says the added costs are an "indictment" on the boxship industry for using "conference-style" pricing a decade after the liner conference system's abolition.
"GSF is adamant that few transport operators in other transport sectors would risk imposing such short-notice emergency surcharges because of the likely strong reaction from customers, including the loss of business," GSF secretary general Chris Welsh said.
