Spot freight rates on the container trades covering Asia-Europe have hit their lowest level for more than a year.
Rates dropped to $584 per teu, down 34% year-on-year, according to the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index.
The sharp drop led to concern that the sector is on the verge of another rate war, although some observers believe it may be a temporary blip and expect an improvement later in the year.
