Gas buyer Gail (India) is due to enter the market within weeks for an LNG carrier to take on multi-year time charter.
Shipowners said they are expecting Gail to tender in early April for a vessel to charter in for three years with options to extend the hire by one-year periods.
The company is understood to be moving to line up tonnage to cover the cargoes it is buying from the US.
