Singapore Shipping Corp, the low profile car carrier owner, may be poised for a return to vessel acquisition mode.
“Given the group’s liquidity, we are cautiously optimistic of investment opportunities in the near term,” said executive chairman Ow Chio Kiat.
The Singapore-listed shipowner has kept its powder dry and has not acquired any tonnage in almost three years.
Between 2014 and 2015 it bought three vessels: the 6,500-ceu Capricornus Leader and the Centaurus Leader (both built 2014) and the 7,000-ceu Taurus Leader (built 2015)
News of the potential new acquisitions came as the company announced a 4% increase in second quarter net income to $2.3m.
