Wide-beam containerships continue to obtain a premium over narrow-beam boxships, but rates are falling in both segments amid weakening demand and growing availability of tonnage.
That is reflected in recent wide-beam fixtures such as the 4,957-teu Wiking (built 2016), which has been taken for five to seven months by Korea Maritime Transport Co (KMTC) at $11,800 per day.
The vessel will be deployed on a service to be launched this month connecting China, Pakistan and the Middle East.
