Spot freight rates for containers on the transpacific trade plunged by 30.3% on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump doubled tariffs on China, which responded with trade action of its own.
The Freightos Baltic Index’s measure of freight rates between China and North America’s West Coast fell to $2,405 per 40-foot equivalent unit (feu) on Tuesday, which marked the lowest level since December 2023.
