A surprise US blacklisting of China Cosco Shipping has sparked fears that future actions could have a drastic impact on container freight rates.
The state-owned giant appeared on a list of “military companies operating in the US” in a Federal Register filing this week.
The Defense Department designation comes with no specific sanctions, but being on the list is aimed at discouraging US firms from having dealings with the companies.
