The European Union has backed a new set of sanctions that target Russia’s shadow fleet and transshipments of LNG, according to senior officials and reports on Thursday.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the package, the bloc’s 14th since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, would strip Russia of energy revenues and “tackle Putin’s shadow fleet”.

The deal is said to include a ban on the transshipment of Russian LNG to third countries via the EU.
