Two-thirds of the alternative-fuelled newbuildings contracted in May were ordered as vessels designed to use methanol as a fuel, according to figures compiled by class society DNV.
In its monthly round-up, DNV said 33 new orders were placed for alternative fuels during May.
Methanol accounted for 23 of the vessels including 10 container ships, five bulkers and four car carriers.
