NYK has ordered the world’s first medium-size ammonia-fuelled ammonia carrier equipped with Japanese-built engines.
The 40,000-cbm vessel, contracted through Nihon Shipyard, will be constructed at Japan Marine United’s Ariake Shipyard for delivery in November 2026.
The order is the result of a national project under the New Energy & Industrial Technology Development Organization and funded through its green innovation fund.
