A laden floating storage unit (FSU) controlled by Atlantic, Gulf & Pacific International Holdings (AG&P) has arrived on its berth in Batangas Bay as the Philippines prepares to receive its first volumes of LNG.
AG&P said its 137,500-cbm long-term chartered FSU Ish has berthed at its Philippines LNG (PHLNG) Import Terminal.
The company described it as a historic moment in the energy industry of the Philippines.
Last week, the Moss-type LNG carrier, which was converted to an FSU by AG&P subsidiary Gas Entec and is on long-term charter from Adnoc Logistics & Services, took on cargo by ship-to-ship transfer from the 162,000-cbm Golar Glacier (built 2014) while the two vessels were moored in the bay.
From its new position on the berth, the Ish will receive cargoes from visiting LNG vessels with the regasification units located onshore.
LNG will be used initially to power San Miguel's 1,200 MW gas-fired power plant, one of the largest in the country, to serve the Luzon region in the Philippines.
Subsidiary AG&P Industrial will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of the new terminal.
AG&P chairman and chief executive Joseph Sigelman said the Ish is docking at PHLNG “for the next decade or longer”.
Sigelman said: “AG&P is proudly set to open the first LNG terminal in the Philippines.”
He said the new facility will shortly have almost equal onshore tank storage, “providing near 100% availability”.
