A crew member has died and another was said to be in a critical condition after a cargo vessel broke up off Russia.
The ministry of emergency situations reported that the 2,200-dwt Seamark (built 1981) was caught in a storm off the Black Sea coast of Krasnodar on Tuesday.
The RIA Novosti agency cited state maritime agency Rosmorrechflot as saying: “The cargo ship Seamark was sailing under the flag of Comoros, broke in a storm. It was transporting 3,500 tonnes of marble chips.”
The emergency ministry said there were 11 people on board.
All but one were rescued by other vessels.
The Seamark had left the Turkish port of Iskenderun on 5 February.
This was the day before the huge earthquake hit the region.
Turkish authorities took five days to extinguish a large fire that broke out in the container terminal at Iskenderun.
The vessel made it to anchorage off Novorossisyk in the Black Sea on 15 February.
The Comoros-flag ship is listed as owned and operated by Crios Shipping of Dubai since January 2022.
Clarksons lists the Seamark as being under repairs from June to November last year.
The ship underwent a ballast water management system retrofit at Hidrodinamik Shipyard in the Tuzla area of Turkey.
