South Africa is planning to launch a new national shipping company to operate tankers and other vessels.
The department of transport wants to create South African Shipping Co (Sasco) as a “preferred national carrier”, according to a draft law published earlier this month.
Sasco would own at least one crude or product ship, plus a chemical tanker, a container ship, a bulker, a coastal cargo ship and refuelling vessels.
