Russian President Vladimir Putin really should have given his superyacht-owning oligarch friends more warning about his invasion of Ukraine.
After all, Putin moved his yacht, the 2,685-gt Graceful (built 2014), out of a shipyard in Germany and back to Russia just days before bombs began falling on Kyiv.
But in the backlash against the war, Putin’s friends were caught out when they were sanctioned and their giant yachts — docked in fashionable Mediterranean marinas, or undergoing refits at shipyards — were seized.
