Frontline chief executive Lars Barstad has revealed the company is considering whether to sell or fit scrubbers to its three remaining elderly tankers.

The John Fredriksen-controlled company has two non-eco VLCCs and a suezmax without exhaust gas cleaners, while 12 other older non-eco ships have been retrofitted.

Frontline said its non-eco VLCCs achieved time charter equivalent earnings of $5,400 in the fourth quarter, but the non-eco ships with scrubbers fitted banked $11,600 due to them being able to buy cheaper high-sulphur fuel oil.
