NYK Line has joined a start-up decarbonisation project which is aiming to develop an electric ship that can transport wind farm generated power in batteries for use onshore.
The PowerX project was founded by former Zozo Inc chief executive Masahiro Ito last year to develop what he described as the Tesla of the sea.
The idea has now won the backing of the NYK Line, Imabari Shipbuilding and classification society DNV.
