Taiwan Navigation has signed a newbuilding contract worth more than $68m with Japan's Oshima Shipbuilding.
The owner contracted the privately owned yard in December to build two ultramax bulk carriers to be delivered in 2024.
A Taiwan Navigation executive confirmed the order of the 63,000-dwt ships, which will replace older vessels. The company currently owns eight ultramaxes, of which two were built in 2007.
