The first Airseas Seawing kite designed to cut emissions has been installed on the 21,500-gt Ville de Bordeaux ro-ro chartered by Airbus to transport aircraft components between France and the US.
The automated wind assisted propulsion system will be tested on the 2004-built ro-ro operated by Louis Dreyfus Armateurs during its monthly transatlantic journeys from January 2022.
The 500 sq m Seawing will undergo six months of sea trials ahead of its full operation.
