Mitsui OSK Lines chief executive Takeshi Hashimoto said he is aiming to continue to diversify outside shipping to build a business with more consistent profitability.
The Tokyo-based company reported a ¥133.6bn ($1.1bn) ordinary profit in the last fiscal year, thanks mainly to record earnings from liner subsidiary Ocean Network Express.
But Hashimoto said he does not believe that the unique circumstances that created the ongoing liner boom are "sustainable in the long term".
