A fire burning through a Express Feeders containership off Sri Lanka since 20 May has been called the worst marine disaster in the island nation's history.
While there are still no reports of oil escaping from the 2,743-teu X-Press Pearl (built 2021), plastic beads in the water in the affected coastal area are said to be menacing the marine ecology.
