Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) has ordered a panamax bulker at Oshima Shipbuilding in Japan for delivery in 2023 — to meet growing demand for biomass transportation.
The cargo capacity and price have not been disclosed. Broker Clarksons estimates the average market price for an 81,000-dwt panamax bulker is $30.5m.
The Tokyo-headquartered company said the ship's design had been adapted for handling woody biomass and includes reinforced mooring equipment and wide hatches to improve cargo handling efficiency.
