The 28,400-dwt Urawee Naree (built 1997), which was reported as sold last week by Precious for $2.35m, this week appeared under ZOS ownership as the Tai Ho.
At the same time, Athenian’s 28,300-dwt San Nikolas (built 1996), which was reported sold in mid August for $2.3m, has also started sailing for ZOS as the Ocean Wit.
Both ships would probably have been scrap candidates if placed on the market earlier this year when their trading value had dropped to just a fraction above scrap value, but a slight improvement in the handysize segment has seen the trading value of vessels climb significantly higher than their demolition figure.
