The first of the deals, in which the buyer was not revealed at the time, was for the 28,300-dwt handysize Admiral Bulker (built 2008). George Chatzis-led Newport bought the ship from Hong Kong-based buyers for about $6m, according to market sources. The Shimanami-built vessel was delivered to Newport in May and is now trading as Agia Sofia.
A second vessel, the much larger, 75,900-dwt Ji May (renamed Levantes, built 2001), entered Newport’s fleet last month.
