India’s shipping ministry will not be revisiting its March relaxation of cabotage rules.
Under the new regime, overseas containerships can operate on local routes to boost transhipment at hub ports.
The aim is to attract more containers to main Indian ports.
But ports lobby group Indian Private Ports and Terminals Association (IPPTA) said: “The conditions imposed for availing cabotage relaxation are so stringent and unrealistic that none of the existing ports/terminals/new ports will be in a position to meet them.
