The liner industry’s feeder carriers are spared many of the headaches of their mainline counterparts. Their business is comparatively simple as they do not have to bear the costs of loading, discharging and maintaining containers. They generally do fine as long as the rates they charge cover their slot costs.
But they are coming under increasing pressure from hard-pressed customers to lower their prices to unsustainable levels.
