Inadequate stability has been blamed for the grounding of a Hoegh Autoliners PCTC off Southampton early last year.
“The fundamental requirements for establishing before departure that a ship has a suitable margin of stability for the intended voyage had been eroded on board Hoegh Osaka such that unsafe practices had become the norm,” the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said in its report into the casualty.
