The US and the State of Alaska have opted not to recover additional damages from Exxon Mobil in relation to the Exxon Valdez spill.
The decision by the Department of Justice (DoJ) and the Alaska Department of Law brings to a close the federal and state judicial actions against the oil major over the 1989 incident.
“The Prince William Sound, Alaska, harlequin ducks and sea otters thought in 2006 to have been impacted by lingering subsurface oil have recovered to pre-spill population levels,” the DoJ said in a statement.
