The US Coast Guard (USCG)’s Houston-Galveston Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) confirms that there were “no vessel movements from Houston Ship Channel Light 86 to Morgan’s Point high lines” due to the collision.
USCG reports say the Danish-flag tanker has ruptured a number of its cargo tanks, partially spilling its load of methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE).
“Three cargo tanks on the vessel were ruptured, releasing an unknown quantity of the gasoline additive,” said a USCG spokesperson.
