The system for the 10,500-gt Seagard will be designed by New Jersey-based CR Ocean Engineering (CROE) and will use seawater in order to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions.
From 1 January, all ships operating in the North American and European emission controls areas (ECA) are required to switch to 0.1% sulphur fuel or install scrubbers.
