Various companies including Vale of Brazil are starting iron-ore production in West Africa this year with a combined production target of 20 million tonnes, says ICAP Shipping.
The broker says steel maker ArcelorMittal is already well established, having shipped on Monday the one-millionth tonne of iron ore from its Nimba mine in Liberia. The vessel is heading for China.
ArcelorMittal loaded the country’s first iron-ore shipment in nearly 30 years last September.
