Eleven crew members have been airlifted from a Norwegian-owned vessel in the English Channel after it ran into trouble in heavy weather today.

A dozen other crew remain on board the Saga Welco-owned 47,000-dwt Saga Sky, which lost power and steering on Sunday morning and was damaged further during a collision with a rock barge.

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the 1996-built ship had been towed to a safe anchorage at Dungeness, with efforts underway to move it to a port of refuge.
