The loss-making Spirit of Tasmania III ferry could be cast adrift by the Tasmanian state government next week.
The 23,700–gt ship (built 1995), bought from Superfast Ferries of Greece for $71.4m in 2003, has been branded a financial disaster by critics.
Tasmanian Premier Paul Lennon was quoted on Australian television as saying that a decision on the ferry's future will be made by the state cabinet next Monday.
