Container volumes at the Port of New York and New Jersey have reached a new record high, surpassing the previous record set in 2007.

The port, which is the third largest in the US, handled 5.5m-teu in 2011 which marked a near 4% increase over 2010’s volumes.

New York claimed that most major ports in the US reported either stable cargo volumes or declines during the year.
