LNG facilities along the US East Coast are battening down the hatches ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Irene, which is forecast to slam into the area over the weekend.
A spokesman for the Cove Point terminal in Maryland said: “We are monitoring the storm and making preparations in accordance with our hurricane plan.”
Staff are moving to secure or store all loose items inside buildings or trailers to prevent flying debris, he explained.
