Authorities in Moscow have approved Total’s bid to take a 20.5% stake in the Yamal LNG project in Russia’s Arctic.
The French oil and gas giant struck a preliminary deal earlier this year with operator Novatek, which is seeking more partners in the 15 million tonnes per annum liquefaction plant but aims to retain a controlling stake.
The Total deal is scheduled to close this month.
