Tokyo Electric Power Company imported 2.14 million tonnes of LNG in March representing a huge spike in purchases in the wake of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.
The utility has secured additional LNG cargoes from a number of sources since the natural disaster knocked out several of its power plants, most notably the Fukushima nuclear facility.
March figures show that LNG came out top in the imports table, with both oil and coal purchases dropping significantly.
