US regulators have approved a vapour dispersion model by classification society DNV in a potential step toward breaking a sweeping permitting logjam.
The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s draft decision, however, will not go into effect until after a 30-day comment period. It also rules that DNV’s so called PHAST-UDM models are not appropriate in all settings.
Virtually every LNG import project in the US permitting pipeline has been frozen for more than a year after regulators threw out long-used vapour models PHMSA declared inadequate.
