Qatargas has committed to sending more than 60 LNG cargoes to Japan in a bid to help the country get back on its feet following last month’s earthquake and tsunami.
The additional supply represents around 4 million tonnes of LNG.
Existing long-term customers in Japan are set to receive the cargoes over the next 12 months, said Qatargas.
Chief executive Khalid Bin Khalifa Al-Thani made the announcement following a visit to Japan to meet senior officials from utility and gas companies.
