Brazil’s Energy Ministry has authorised Petrobras to re-export cargoes from its floating LNG terminals at Guanabara Bay near Rio de Janeiro and Pecem in the north.
The government-controlled company will be able to offload up to 3.2 million cubic metres of previously imported LNG, the equivalent of some 19 cargoes, over a period of a year.
Officials said re-exports are only permitted when the country’s gas demand is fully met.
