Japanese shipbuilder Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has unveiled the new Moss-type LNG carrier design ‘EXTREM’ which the shipbuilder claims offers 20% fuel savings.

It achieves this through a combination of a new tank cover, hull form and Ultra Steam Turbine Plant propulsion system.

The yard says the 155,000-cbm vessel, one in its ‘Sayaendo’ series

of LNG carriers, whose name means ‘peas in a pod’, allows for greater reinforcement making it suitable for ice conditions.
