Spain's government is standing firm on a decision not to commission the El Musel import terminal in the north.
Start-up of the regasification facility will not be approved until "demand justifies it", said Isidro Martínez Oblanca, a spokesman for Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy.
Spanish grid and terminal operator Enagas is building El Musel near Gijon.
The government decided early this spring to delay commissioning of the facility as a result of low demand for LNG imports in the country.
