The Society of International Gas Tanker & Terminal Operators (Sigtto) is waiting to hear if its submission to the International Maritime Organisation on planned legislation covering energy efficiency measures for LNG newbuildings will be recognised.

At a meeting next week, the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee will try to steer its ship energy efficiency design index (EEDI), which will give a rating to all newbuildings, towards becoming a mandatory part of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (Marpol).
