Japanese utility Saibu Gas has kicked off operations at a small satellite LNG import terminal in the south-western city of Omuta.

The 50,000 tonnes per annum receiving facility opened for business on Wednesday. It has been under construction since November 2009.



The plant will supply the cities of Omuta and Kumamoto in Fukuoka prefecture on Kyushu Island with vaporised gas after taking in LNG cargoes from Saibu’s larger terminals.
