LNG producers in Australia have made quite a fuss about the carbon emissions tax scheme unveiled by Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association, for example, slammed the proposed A$23 (US$24.74) per tonne emissions price tag because it would reduce the competitiveness of Australian LNG export projects.
And the APPEA reasoned that the tax fails to take into account that the LNG Australia exports will help reduce carbon emissions in countries where fuel oil or coal are the alternative.
