Kansai Electric Power is on the hunt for short-term and spot volumes after being hit by delays at the upcoming Pluto LNG project in Australia and extended nuclear shutdowns.



Japan’s second biggest utility after Tokyo Electric Power has approached various suppliers with a view to securing a deal of up to a year in duration, market sources said.



Kansai, which is dependent on nuclear power for more than half its generating capacity, was hard hit by Japan’s earthquake and tsunami in March and some of its plants remain shuttered.
