Chevron has hit more gas in the Carnarvon Basin which could help underpin an expansion of the Gorgon LNG project.
The Australian subsidiary of the US operator said the Pontus-1 exploration well in the Greater Gorgon Area of the Basin encountered around 97 feet of net gas pay.
“This discovery represents our fourteenth discovery offshore north-western Australia since 2009 and will support potential future expansion opportunities for the Gorgon Project,” said Chevron Asia Pacific Exploration and Production president Melody Meyer.
