Anadarko has spudded an appraisal well on its Barquentine gas discovery off Mozambique as the US oil and gas independent strives to confirm sufficient reserves for a liquefaction plant.
Fred Olsen Energy-owned drillship Belford Dolphin will drill two appraisal wells on the field.
London-listed partner Cove Energy said successful results would “lay the foundations for the first LNG train”.
A final investment decision on the project is expected in late 2013.
