LNG imports to Japanese utility Chubu Electric Power may boom by 38% as a result of the outfit’s decision to close its nuclear power plant.
According to an updated fuel procurement estimate today, Chubu said it expects to buy an additional 3.2 million tonnes of LNG this year up to March 2012.
"We should ask for extra supplies of power from the west and greater use of in-house power generation, and restart our moth-balled thermal plants," Reuters reported Chubu president Akihisa Mizuno as telling a news conference.
