Australia’s federal government has issued an environmental permit for the Ichthys LNG project.
The licence covers development of the Ichthys gas field in the Browse basin and LNG production at Blaydin Point in Darwin.
Environment Minister Tony Burke imposed stringent conditions. Japanese operator Inpex will have to develop a greenhouse gas management programme and minimise waste and noise.
It will also have to mitigate the impact of dredging on marine life as well as manage onshore and underwater habitats.
